DEVIL’S DELIGHT is as short film created by Director David New for the Bravofact program. Conceived as a meeting ground between the devilish and the sublime it features master chocolatier Joseph Montinaro conjuring up a sinfully decadent confection inspired by the equally dark and sensuous strains of Eugene Ysaye’s violin sonata, ‘Obsession.’
Situated conceptually in ‘hell’s kitchen’, we created oversized mounds of sugar, butter and slabs of dark chocolate among a range of implements both archaic and beautifully sinister. Diffused panels of smoke and brimstone stained plastic drip from the warehouse rafters, while rough-hewn stone walls surround. Our location was a wonderful warehouse situated in Toronto’s Distillery district that lent its considerable character and texture to our purpose.
It’s always enjoyable to design projects like this that rely heavily on imaginative and metaphoric flights of interpretation.
